It ensures that personal health information is kept private and secure, limiting its disclosure without patient consent.
FIPS, or Federal Information Processing Standards, are U.S. government requirements for secure cryptography. FIPS-validated cryptography means a product’s encryption has been independently tested under NIST’s Cryptographic Module Validation Program and given an official certification number. Unlike “FIPS-compliant” claims, validation proves the module meets strict federal standards—often required in government, defense, and other regulated industries.
